Statement of the Freemuslim Center for International Human Solidarity Day

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.”
(Qur’an 5:2)

Each year, on December 20, the world commemorates the International Day of Human Solidarity, as designated by the United Nations, to reaffirm solidarity as a universal and foundational value upon which relations among peoples in the twenty-first century must be built.

On this occasion, the Global Nonviolence Organization Freemuslim Center for De-Radicalization & Extremism Prevention reiterates that solidarity is not merely a moral choice, but an existential necessity for humanity’s survival amid escalating threats to peace, dignity, and global security.

Director Moujtaba Akhwand, speaking on behalf of Freemuslim, emphasizes that genuine solidarity must move beyond symbolic declarations and political rhetoric toward concrete humanitarian, legal, and ethical action in support of communities devastated by war, displacement, repression, and systemic injustice.

The Freemuslim Center for Global Nonviolence observes with deep concern the intensification of humanitarian suffering across numerous regions of the world, including but not limited to the following:

Ukraine

Millions of civilians continue to endure displacement, loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and long-term trauma as a result of prolonged armed conflict. Freemuslim underscores the necessity of protecting civilians and pursuing diplomatic pathways to end hostilities.

Sudan

Sudan remains engulfed in a devastating internal conflict marked by mass displacement, famine-like conditions, and the collapse of essential services, placing civilians—especially women and children—at extreme risk.

Afghanistan

The Afghan population continues to face severe economic collapse, food insecurity, restrictions on basic rights, and limited access to education and healthcare, creating a prolonged humanitarian emergency.

Yemen

Years of war have left Yemen among the world’s gravest humanitarian crises, with widespread hunger, preventable disease, and the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure.

Democratic Republic of Congo

Ongoing violence, armed group activity, and resource-driven conflict have displaced millions and subjected civilians to chronic insecurity and human rights violations.

Myanmar

Ethnic and religious minorities continue to suffer from persecution, displacement, and denial of citizenship and basic protections amid political instability and armed conflict.

China (Uyghur and other Muslim minorities)

Freemuslim expresses concern regarding credible reports of mass surveillance, cultural suppression, arbitrary detention, and restrictions on religious freedom affecting Uyghur Muslims and other minority communities, emphasizing the importance of human dignity and fundamental rights.

Haiti

Chronic political instability, armed violence, and economic collapse have pushed millions into extreme poverty and insecurity, with limited access to basic services.

Syria

After more than a decade of conflict, millions of Syrians remain displaced internally and externally, facing poverty, insecurity, and diminishing international attention to their humanitarian needs.

Lebanon

Lebanon continues to suffer under extraordinary pressures caused by repeated aggression and compounded political and economic crises, placing immense strain on civilians’ livelihoods, safety, and dignity. Freemuslim calls for sustained international solidarity to protect civilians and stabilize living conditions.

Palestine/Israel

Gaza is enduring an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, where civilians face relentless military violence and a suffocating blockade that has crippled healthcare systems, infrastructure, and basic services.

Freemuslim stresses that solidarity with the Palestinian people is an urgent humanitarian obligation, requiring immediate action to halt civilian suffering and ensure unimpeded access to life-saving assistance. Peaceful coexistence requires collective responsibility, noting that humanitarian efforts must never be halted, politicized, or obstructed due to governmental disputes. Facts on the ground remain humanitarian facts, and human lives must remain above politics.

Recommendations of the Freemuslim Center for Global Nonviolence To the International Community

Guided by the principles of nonviolence and universal human dignity, and articulated by Director Moujtaba Akhwand, Freemuslim presents the following recommendations:

1. Protection of Civilians

Director Akhwand calls for full adherence to International Humanitarian Law, the lifting of sieges and collective punishments, and the guaranteed flow of food, medical aid, and humanitarian assistance to all civilians without discrimination.

2. Activation of Preventive Diplomacy

Freemuslim urges major powers and the UN Security Council to prioritize dialogue, mediation, and nonviolent conflict resolution over militarization, which continues to erode human dignity and exhaust national and global resources.

3. Support for Local Humanitarian Responders

Freemuslim highlights the critical role of local humanitarian organizations and volunteers as the first line of defense against humanitarian collapse, calling for sustained international funding, protection, and logistical support.

4. Strengthening Digital and Human Rights Solidarity

Freemuslim calls upon civil society, media institutions, and global citizens to apply coordinated public pressure through international platforms to amplify the voices of the oppressed and demand accountability for human rights violations.

5. Combating Hate Speech and Dehumanization

Director Akhwand underscores that genuine solidarity begins with recognizing the equal rights and inherent dignity of all human beings, and rejecting all forms of religious, ethnic, racial, or political dehumanization that fuel conflict and violence.

Conclusion

The Freemuslim Center for Global Nonviolence affirms that global peace cannot be achieved without justice, equitable access to resources, and sincere solidarity with the most vulnerable. Saving one human life is, in essence, an act of saving all humanity.
