The Freemuslim Organization is Alarmed Over the Situation of Minorities in Syria and Violations Against Kurdish Civilians
The Global Nonviolence Organization, Freemuslim is following with deep concern and sorrow the reports coming from northern Syria, which document a dangerous escalation in human rights violations directed against civilians—particularly ethnic and religious minorities who increasingly find themselves under fire and victims of policies of marginalization and forced displacement.
The recent systematic targeting of Kurdish civilians—including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and the seizure of property—constitutes a blatant violation of the principles of international humanitarian law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Such practices only serve to inflame hatred and tear apart the Syrian social fabric, which has historically been characterized by diversity and coexistence.
Humanitarian and Human Rights Demands:
Based on its principles of peace and justice, the organization puts forward the following demands:
• Immediate cessation of violence: We call on all conflicting parties to immediately halt military operations in civilian-populated areas and to keep minorities out of political and military conflicts.
• Protection of Kurdish civilians: We urge the international community to assume its responsibilities in providing the necessary protection for Kurdish civilians and other minorities in northern Syria, and to ensure they are not subjected to forced demographic change.
• Accountability for perpetrators: We demand the establishment of an independent international investigative committee to examine the crimes committed against civilians and to bring those responsible for violations and terrorist acts before international justice, ensuring there is no impunity.
• Provision of humanitarian aid: We appeal to international relief organizations to intervene urgently to meet the needs of displaced and affected populations, and to open safe corridors for the delivery of medical and food assistance without discrimination.
• Rejection of terrorism and extremism: The organization affirms that terrorism in all its forms—whether organized or ideological—is the foremost enemy of humanity, and calls for drying up the sources of incitement that target ethnic and religious components in Syria.
The Global Nonviolence Organization, Freemuslim, believes that the solution in Syria will never be a military one, but rather lies in establishing the values of equal citizenship and respect for human rights.
We renew our call for peaceful dialogue and for reason to prevail over the language of bullets, in order to protect what remains of human dignity in those lands.
