Statement of the Freemuslim Organization on the Occasion of the International Migrants Day
“Toward Human Dignity Without Borders, Migrants Deserv Rights, Not Handouts”
The Global Nonviolence Organization, Freemuslim joins the international community in commemorating the International Migrants Day, an occasion that comes this year amid harsh conditions and unprecedented challenges facing millions of people who have been forced to leave their homelands in search of safety, fleeing wars, or seeking a dignified livelihood.
Grounded in its principles of respect for human dignity and the rejection of violence in all its forms, the organization affirms that migration is not merely a demographic phenomenon, but a true test of the international community’s commitment to the values of justice, equality, and compassion.
Current Challenges
The organization is gravely concerned by the escalation of hate speech and racial discrimination against migrants in many countries around the world, and by the transformation of migration into a bargaining chip in political negotiations. This has led to serious human rights violations, including arbitrary detention, denial of healthcare, and endangering lives during irregular migration journeys.
Human Rights Demands
Based on its international and ethical commitments, the Global Nonviolence Organization Freemuslim puts forward the following demands:
-
Activation of the Global Compact for Migration: We call on signatory states to fully comply with the provisions of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and to cease all practices that contradict the spirit of this agreement.
-
Guaranteeing Fundamental Rights: It is essential to ensure that all migrants, regardless of their legal status, have access to basic services such as education, healthcare, and legal protection, in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
-
Criminalizing Hate Speech: We urge governments and international organizations to enact strict laws criminalizing incitement against migrants, and to confront extremist movements that seek to stigmatize migrants with negative stereotypes that tear apart the social fabric.
-
Ending Arbitrary Detention: We demand an end to the detention of migrants—especially children and women—and the adoption of humane alternatives that preserve their dignity and respect their rights to assembly and movement.
-
Addressing the Root Causes of the Crisis: We appeal to the international community to work seriously to end armed conflicts and support sustainable development in countries of origin, ensuring the human right to “remain in one’s homeland” with dignity.
Closing Message
The Global Nonviolence Organization Freemuslim views migrants as bridges for cultural and economic exchange among peoples, and calls on the international community to transform migration into an opportunity for shared prosperity rather than treating it as a security burden.
“A human being is the brother of another human being, wherever they may settle or travel.”
