Freemuslim Urges Tunisian Democracy Integrity

Freemuslim has received  reports about the imprisonment and exclusion of several individuals who have put themselves forward as candidates for the presidency in Tunisia. The organization has expressed significant concern regarding the transparency and integrity of the upcoming democratic process.

Freemuslim has reviewed media and human rights reports indicating that Courts in Tunisia have issued prison sentences and lifelong exclusions against five individuals who sought to participate in the upcoming presidential elections, based on unconstitutional grounds according to some observers.

Moujtaba Akhwand, director of Freemuslim, believes Tunisia has an opportunity to showcase its capability to be more inclusive and democratic. He emphasizes that allowing individuals to voice their opinions is key, as it enables people to become agents of positive change rather than mere critics who complain about circumstances without attempting to uplift society.

The organization asserts that Tunisia, still in the process of establishing democratic practices after the era of the previous dictatorial regime, urgently needs to ensure political freedoms by providing fair opportunities for citizens in terms of candidacy and voting without any undue political interference.

Freemuslim calls upon the Tunisian authorities to work towards guaranteeing the transparency of political and democratic processes in accordance with fair and equitable standards, thereby preventing the monopolization of power and the return of authoritarianism or dictatorship. Mr. Akhwand believes that by fostering inclusivity and encouraging active participation, Tunisia can be seen as a model for democratic evolution and societal advancement.
