Forced Abortion in the 21st Century
Freemuslim’s Women Rights Defenders expresses its concern regarding the atrocity towards the Uyghur (Uighur) minority in China, and asks the Chinese officials to halt all medical procedures done to Uyghur women. It is hard to believe these inhumane actions are done in the 21st Century and the world has stood silent. There has been numerous reports by detainees, doctors and also first hand testimonials by women of Uyghur ethnicity that the Chinese government has intentionally targeted the Uyghurs in a nation wide attempt. There has been hundreds of cases of forced abortion, forced contraception and in numerous cases; forced sterilization for women who have been pregnant, and or already have two kids.
In addition to above mentioned gruesome action by the Chinese government, birth control implants have been inserted into women’s upper arms to prevent future pregnancy. There has been reports of forced abortion at the full term of pregnancy meaning in the third trimester where the unborn child is fully formed, has a heart beat and all organs have formed, and in some cases; forced removal of the womb has been experienced.
These inhumane actions have lead to decrease in birth rate in Uyghur ethnicity by %60. Infants born alive and killed by injection, and thousands of children thrown away at the final stages of pregnancy. Ethnic cleansing of the Uyghur minority is part of Communist Party Population Control Plan. The Uyghur women were regularly made to take pregnancy tests and forced into abortions if they test positive.
More than a million Uyghurs have been rounded up and detained in mass internment camps since 2016. China rejects comparisons to “concentration camps” — Beijing has repeatedly said the facilities are vocational centers or “boarding schools” that are necessary to prevent “extremism” and “terrorism”. China’s campaign against the Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities extends far beyond restrictions to freedom and thought — it also attempts to sever them from their roots, history and lineage.
Freemuslim believes a cultural genocide is taking place and the world has the responsibility to defend the voiceless and hopeless Uyghur minority and their children. An entire population cannot take the blame for few people who have acted violently and may have used forced to show their disagreement with the Chinese government. It is unfair and unjust to prosecute an entire ethnic group, detain parents and put them in concentration camps, detain children and force them into kindergarten-like facilities fenced up and closed to visitors, commit inhuman act of forced abortion, forced contraception and in numerous cases forced sterilization, removal of womb, killing of newly born infants, and forcing a language change.
