International Press Freedom Day

Journalism occupies the most effective humanitarian field, given its pivotal role in human rights issues, affairs and details that are important in the progressive human development, so that it has become one of the most important practical facilities affecting human life in our time. As the press has contributed to the disclosure and fairness of many sensitive issues and problems at various levels, political, social or environmental, which feed or interact at the root of the perpetuity of humanity and life on planet Earth, and if it were not for the free press, the international community would have suffered severe damage and catastrophic consequences.

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day or just World Press Day, observed to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Freemuslim seizes this occasion to invite political governments around the world, especially in the Middle East region to reconsider some of the repressive measures and laws that hinder the freedom and movement of workers in the press. Many journalists around the world complain of harassment, skepticism, direct and indirect targeting by political regimes, organizations, or groups of different titles, while these violations affected the lives of many of them, and some of them were subjected to physical liquidation, forced disappearance, arrest, or various acts of violence of varying level.

Over the past months, the organization has monitored dozens of violations committed by official governments and regional parties, especially in areas of armed conflict and political unrest, which have led to the killing, absence, and physical and psychological harm of dozens of workers in the field of journalism. We ask and urge governments to become more transparent, reduce human rights violations, and also guarantee rights of journalists and activists in the field of press
